If I build a knowledge base using a particular server, am I then "tied" to that server?

If the Knowledge Base is stored in a particular format, the use of this kb is tied to this format.

However  if a KB is stored  as a series of OKBC operations needed to created it in an OKBC server, it is not tied to
that server.
