In this tutorial, we share our perspectives on building agent-based systems, and our experiences with building a number of systems based on the Open Agent Architecture (OAA).

Our goal is to illustrate practical techniques for exploiting some of the opportunities, and dealing with some of the challenges, inherent in agent-based approaches.

We’ll aim for a balance between the specific and the general: specific descriptions of how things are done using 0AA, and general lessons that can be applied within any agent-based framework.

While most of our remarks will be addressed to the systems developer, many are also of interest to designers of other agent frameworks.
