SRI has pioneered a formal
semantics for fuzzy logic where it is understood
as a logic of similarity and utility. Goals and conditions are regarded as
elastic contraints that determine the desirability of possible actions.
These desirability functions are computed by means of sets
of fuzzy rules. Each such set of rules implements a basic
behavior that accomplishes a single task within a restricted context.
Context-dependent meta-rules blend multiple behaviors to
achieve complex goals in a wide variety of situations.
