Software Description

LAW is a system that helps intelligence professionals define and match patterns within large, incomplete, and noisy sets of relational data. The LAW user typically interacts with the system through a cycle in which the user (1) creates an initial pattern corresponding to his information needs, (2) uses the LAW matcher to retrieve a collection of (partially) matching episodes in the data, (3) revises the pattern based on the shortcomings of the matches, and (4) repeats the process until the revised patter is returning the right data. The patter language (GEM) and the system are designed to facilitate the user in quickly traversing this cycle.

The Link Analysis Workbench
The goal of this project is to develop the Link Analysis Workbench (LAW), a Web-accessible tool where analysts and machines collaboratively perform link analysis by defining hierarchical and temporal patterns, that include uncertain and qualitative elements, and by defining search strategies for pattern application, through a graphical user interface that supports direct graphical browsing and editing of patterns, search strategies, and summaries and details of resulting matches.
