JANUS knows where I am. It knows my address
book, calendar, and to-do list. Through the
Web, it can access maps, traffic reports,
and public schedules of events. It can check
GPS units, web cams, and other sensors. It
can produce and understand spoken language.
It can perform inferences to answer questions,
solve problems, and warn of potential
conflicts.
Can your Palm Pilot do that?
A preliminary demo will be given.

Mark Pendrith has a background in Machine
Learning, in particular the application of
Reinforcement Learning to partially
observable domains. His theoretical research
has been applied to control problems in
autonomous robotics, and more recently he
has been working on applications within
pervasive computing. He currently serves,
with David Martin, as co-champion for SRIs
Janus project.
