Over the past three years I traveled to 30 countries investigating the intimate connection between coffee and local culture. I got sucked in to the subculture of world-famous coffee farmers, roasters and baristas, had some really great coffee and ended up with quite a few coffee toys. I will speak about some of the highlights of this journey that culminated in publishing my book "The Infinite Emotions of Coffee". I will weave the coffee stories with the story of Google Fusion Tables, a service developed by my team at Google Research that makes data management and integration approachable by people with little database expertise. In particular, journalists around the world have been able to embed dynamic visualizations in their articles, garnering millions of hits and even innovation awards in journalism for a few of them.
