   Abstract

This talk is about a minimally supervised machine learning framework (DARE) for acquiring relation extraction grammars from unannotated free texts. As the targeted relations can be of arity greater than two, often several rules are needed for extracting one instance. Cornerstones of the approach are 1) discovery of extraction rules from parsing results for relations of various complexities 2) improvement of confidence estimation of rules via utilization of closed-world knowledge and negative seed 3) parse-reranking via feedback from relation exraction. This talk will also describe the major challenges for this approach and summarize the obtained results and insights. Open problems are addressed and strategies for solving these are outlined.

More information about the DARE framework can be found from the web page: http://dare.dfki.de

   Bio for Feiyu Xu

Feiyu Xu is senior researcher and project leader in the Language Technology Lab of German Research Center of Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). She studied technical translation at Tongji University in Shanghai. In 1991, she left for Germany for studying computational linguistics at Saarland University and graduated by receiving a Diplom (MSc) for a thesis on "Semantic Underspecification and Ellipsis Resolution". She joinded DFKI in 1998. Her PhD is in the area of information extraction for a thesis on "Boostrapping Relation Extraction from Semantic Seeds". Since 2004, Feiyu Xu is also vice-director of the Joint Research Laboratory for Language Technology of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Saarland University. She also is co-founder and managing director of Yocoy Technologies GmbH, a 2007 spin-off from DFKI.
