Coordinated UAV Operations: Perspectives and New Results

   Abstract

New problems in coordinated target acquisition by a UAV cluster are addressed. Original results on the spatial separation of the UAVs under an optimal policy are presented. These results help determine the number and spatial distribution of the UAVs needed to perform a target acquisition task efficiently. Analytical and simulation results are presented.

   Bio for Eric Feron

Eric FERON is an Associate Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He has been on the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since November 1993. His research interests include the application of convex optimization and mathematical programming to control problems and combinatorial problems, air traffic control, airport and airline operations, aircraft flight testing and autonomous aerial vehicles. He has received awards from MIT, the National Science Foundation, NASA and the Office of Naval Research for his research. He is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, member of IEEE and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. He is an Advisor to the French National Academy of Technologies. He is the co-author of one book (and two more on the way) and more than 100 journal and conference papers. He is an associate editor for several research publications including the IEEE Trans. On Automatic Control and the International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control.

   Note for Visitors to SRI

Please arrive at least 10 minutes early as you will need to sign in by following instructions by the lobby phone at Building E. SRI is located at 333 Ravenswood Avenue in Menlo Park.
