  ABSTRACT={This paper begins by reviewing briefly the history of research in pattern
     recognition, problem solving, and robot systems. Then the evolution of "Shakey",
     the SRI robot system is described. After discussing some problems for future
     versions of the Shakey system, the paper concludes with a brief discussion
     of potential industrial applications of robot research. },
