Abstract

In Part Two, we offered a specification for a low-cost general-purpose lens for use with silicon photocell array cameras. In this report, we investigate the development of the all air-spaced, four-element lens from the patents that relate to the Goerz Celor, Goerz Dogmar, Cooke Aviar, and 100 mm Kodak Ektar (U.S. Patent No. 2,338,614). The design in the latter patent is compatible with our specification. Spherical aberration and ASC’ curves are given for each of the designs and are used as the basis for evaluating suitability for our particular purpose.
