   Project Description

The purpose of this project is to develop a robust and reliable method of detecting changes in the 3-D shape of terrain given sets of aerial/satellite images taken at different times. The methodology we developed for doing this is called self-consistency, in which many views of unchanging terrain are used to statistically characterize the results of a specific stereo algorithm as a function of stereo viewpoints, terrain type, and a quality of match metric, or "score". Once this statistics have been collected, it is possible to reliably distinguish between changes in stereo pairs due to real changes in terrain elevation from those due to artifacts of the stereo algorithm.
