Adept Installation Guide

This is a guide for installing and running the Adept Task Learning system and accompanying Adept-enabled applications.

Adept comes with two sample applications:

These applications provide a simple environment for illustrating how Adept works. They are documented in the Adept User Guide.

System Requirements

Platform

Adept is supported for Windows 7 and Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or later). Future MacOS support is dependent on JavaFX support for MacOS.

Software

The following software is required to run Adept:

Installing Adept on Windows

  1. Run the installer.exe file.
  2. If JavaFX version 2.0.0 is not detected during installation, the user is prompted to install it. Please visit the JavaFX download page http://www.javafx.com and click the 'Download Now' link. Remember to agree to the license terms and select the Windows platform.
  3. During the JavaFX install, if Java version 1.6.0_26 or higher is not detected, the user is prompted to install it. Please click the OK button and follow the onscreen instructions for installing Java.
  4. Close your browser when the installation is complete.
  5. Should there be a problem with the install of JavaFX or Java while installing Adept, they may be installed independently. They are available at javafx.com and java.com respectively.

Installing and Enabling Adept Applications on Windows

The Image Loader and Novo applications are installed with Adept and require no further installation.

Running Adept on Windows

On the Start Menu, under Programs>SRI>Adept, click "Start Adept". The Image Loader is started by clicking the Start Image Loader link in the Adept>Applications folder. The Novo is started by clicking the Start Novo link in the Adept>Applications folder. Adept must be run first in order for Image Loader or Novo to connect to Adept.

Uninstalling Adept on Windows

On the Start Menu, under Programs>SRI>Adept, click "Uninstall Adept".
