Search Setup


CALO Express immediately starts scanning your files and email items on installation. CALO Express scans in the background while your system is idle.

By default, CALO scans all your connected drives and your default email inbox, calendar, and contacts. In your file system, CALO scans the following file types: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF, HTML, and text.

You may want to change CALO scanning to certain file types or certain places. The less extraneous information you scan, the easier it will be to find what you want. For example, you might want CALO to search items only from the Desktop and the My Documents folder. See Setup File Types and Folders for instructions on how to limit CALO scans.

Configure Your CALO Express Search Settings

To configure your CALO search settings, click the on the CALO deskbar. Click the "CALO Settings". On the CALO Settings window, choose the content types, folders, and directories that you want available for CALO searches.

NOTE: By default, CALO Express scans 1) all connected drives; 2) the Outlook or Thunderbird default email inbox, calendar, and contacts; and 3) all files except  Windows system files, hidden files, program directories, and the local temp directory. CALO scans while your system is idle, so the initial CALO scan takes hours to a day or more to complete. During scans, CALO searches are available, but the results are incomplete until the scan is finished.

ActivCard™ is software used in conjunction with smartcards to authenticate users and digitally encrypt and sign email. If ActivCard's Auto-Contact feature is enabled, whenever you click on a signed email, ActivCard askes if you want to add the sender to your Outlook contacts folder. If this ActivCard feature is enabled when CALO Express scans your email, an add-sender dialog box annoyingly opens again for all signed email.

Setup File Types and Folders

Select the file types and folders (directories) for CALO scans. In a specified folder AND its subfolders, all files of the selected types are scanned. Use the "Add" button to browse for folders.


Setup Outlook Folders

Select the Outlook folders for CALO scans. Use the "Add" button to browse for folders.


Setup Thunderbird Folders

Select the Thunderbird folders for CALO scans. Use the "Add" button to browse for folders.



Setup Contact Assistance

CALO Express 1.5 comes with Contact Assistant installed.  For this service to be fully functional your network firewalls must be configured to allow  incoming traffic from the contact assistance server.
