TERRAVISION README - Last updated: Mar 28 2002. http://www.tvgeo.com/ REQUIREMENTS: ------------ Irix 6.5 or later to run bin/TerraVision binary. At least 10MB disk space for installation. For further instructions on installation, and for future updates, see the following URL: http://www.tvgeo.com/download.shtml TO INSTALL: ----------- Find a suitable location for the binaries and corresponding files. Extract the TerraVision files to this directory, e.g. 1) Uncompress the tar file tv-dist.tar.gz i.e. gunzip tv-dist.tar.gz This should generate a file called tv-dist.tar 2) Extract the TerraVision distribution i.e. tar -xvf tv-dist.tar This should create a directory called "TerraVision" TO START UP TERRAVISION: ------------------------ 1) Update your login script (e.g. .cshrc for csh) and add a TVHOME environment variable that points to the TerraVision directory, e.g. # csh script to setup environment for TerraVision setenv TVHOME /homedir/TerraVision set path = ($path $TVHOME/bin) 2) source your login script (e.g. "source .cshrc") 3) To run the Tcl/Tk TerraVision interface type, TerraVision (N.B. TerraVision is a shell script that runs the binary TclTV) For help on using TerraVision, please refer to the User Guide at: http://www.tvgeo.com/user_guide/ VIEWING A SAMPLE DATASET: ------------------------- There is a sample Database file included in the distribution as TerraVision/etc/sample_database.xml. This contains a snapshot of all terrain datasets available at the SRI web server. To try any of these, go to "File/Open Terrain", then enter in the the full pathname for the sample_database.xml file in the Database text widget and press RETURN. You should see a list of datasets. Click on one and then click on "Open Dataset".
